Exploratree at St Andrews Botanic Garden

Reading Time less than a minute
Date 11 August 2022

We are thrilled to open our new play area at St Andrews Botanic Garden. Storms Arwen and Barra brought down lots of trees in the Pinetum – mostly firs and larch, and with their excellent construction properties this meant that we could use their timber to make something unique.

Designed and made by Sam Green, it is full of individual quirks, celebrating the individual nature of each piece of timber. Sam has designed the Exploratree so that it brings together a tree house, a high rope bridge, a spider’s web climbing frame and a den – an adventurous way for people to explore this part of the Garden and its trees. Most of all, we hope that people will enjoy being amongst nature.

The Exploratree is designed for 6-12 year olds but is fun for everyone, with climbing banks, benches and seating nearby. The Exploratree was made possible by the generous support of the Kilrymont Rotary Club and St Andrews Community Trust, and we hope to add more to the area in the coming months – we will have to see what the winds this winter bring!
