In 2020 we began a programme to reduce our carbon footprint and support our native biodiversity and funded by Nature Scot, we began the Meadows in the Making project. This project has allowed us to connect the Botanic Garden to ecological networks across St Andrews and has seen large areas of the Garden which were previously mown to become havens for invertebrates and more diverse plant communities. Already we are seeing the benefits, with four species of native orchids now growing by the Poplar Glade, including Broad-leaved Helleborine, one of only two populations in Fife.
