Generator Garden

Brownfield sites offer an untapped opportunity for nature in our towns and cities: because they are often unloved and have highly diverse soil conditions, they are often hotspots of biodiversity in our towns and cities which are then erased when they are finally developed. In this project we are testing low-budget ways of rethinking our brownfields, making them spectacular places to be and introducing long-lasting biodiversity benefits by using decaying wood in imaginative ways. Our dead wood structures facilitate the processes of microbial life and over the course of the project we will be testing how to best ensure that the fungi and other microbes that develop can be retained in the soils.
