St Andrews Botanic Garden supports the community in and around St Andrews in many ways, from providing resources for community groups to use in the Garden to giving the crops from the Urban Farm to groups who wish to learn more about growing produce. The Kernel is an area within the Garden where community organisations such as St Andrews in Bloom, Men’s Shed and St Andrews Environmental Network are based and meet regularly.
Beyond north east Fife, we are active members of national and international organisations that align with our work, including PlantNetwork, BGCI, and many horticultural and botanical societies including BSBI, Scottish Rock, Alpine Garden Society and the International Dendrology Society.
We are always open to new ideas that help people learn about or work with plants, so please get in touch if you have an idea for a project.
Storytelling Videos From The Garden
One way we have worked with the community is alongside Storyteller Sheila Kinninmonth. In November 2020, as part of the Scottish Storytelling Centre’s Story Ripple Programme, Sheila recorded four stories in the garden along the theme of watery tales. Each video is aimed at a different age group, from under 5s up to older children and adults. You can view the videos below, and please do let us know your comments on them by getting in touch on firstname.lastname@example.org.
