St Andrews Open Learning Successful Vegetable Growing Course

Date: 27 April 2023 (18:00-20:00)

St Andrews Open Learning will be hosting their course "Successful Vegetable Growing" at the Garden this spring!

Not only is homegrown food delicious, but with current economic conditions and increasing concern about “food miles” and vegetable shortages, more people are turning to growing their own vegetables.

This short practical course will focus on the delicious vegetables which can be grown successfully in Fife, whether you have plenty of garden space, or simply some flower pots.

The course will explore how to improve soil fertility, as well as advice on a range of different vegetables, including root vegetables, broccoli, leeks, courgettes and salad vegetables. For each vegetable the class will include information on:

  • Choosing appropriate vegetable varieties for growing in Fife.
  • Methods of propagation and planting.
  • Methods of thinning and growing on.
  • Pests and diseases.
  • Storage of vegetables, to keep you enjoying them in the winter.
Classes will take place on Thursday evenings from 6pm-8pm for a block of 6 weeks, starting on Thursday 27th April. The cost for all 6 sessions will  be £78.
